This Lent, we return to the roots of the Good News.
We will explore what was central to Jesus' life and ministry - radical welcome, love of neighbor, care for the vulnerable, and grace that liberates. This season, we'll discover how the good news is still alive, challenging, and still deeply good for our world today.

Rooted Reflections
Join us at the church every Wednesday evening at 6pm (February 25-March 25) for "Rooted Reflections", a chance to lean into the Good News through scripture, art and conversation.
We will be utilizing Zoom for these gatherings to be more accessible to those unable to attend in person on Wednesday evenings. Send an email to office@firstwashmo.com for the Zoom invitation link.

The Good News Is...Protection and Care for the Vulnerable
If we are truly living out the Good News, then the most vulnerable are protected and cared for.

The Good News Is...Rooted in Justice, Mercy and Faithfulness
The Good News means that at heart of every religious rule or action should be justice, mercy and faithfulness.

The Good News Is...Inspiring Us to Act
As we enter into the story of "Holy Week", we should ask what will the Good News inspire us to do, and how do we put Jesus' teachings into action?

Mark your calendars for First Washington UMC's Easter Egg Hunt! Invite friends and family and help us include the whole community in this all-abilities event!
The hunt is being held on the church grounds at 11am on Palm Sunday, March 29. The event will be held rain or shine, with plans for an indoor hunt in case of cold or rainy weather.
Come participate in outreach to the wider Washington community!

The Good News Is...Even Judas Gets His Feet Washed
In honor of Holy Thursday, we will be hosting a Love Feast meal at the church at 6pm. All are invited to our table, just as Jesus never turned anyone away from his own. The Love Feast is a Christian fellowship meal recalling the tables Jesus shared with disciples during his ministry, and expressing the "koinonia" (community, sharing, companionship) enjoyed by followers of Jesus. It's a time to share in conversation and good news, and remember a common story of Jesus' love. A meal will be provided.
Join this celebration of the unity and fellowship modeled by Christ Jesus.

The Good News Is...Revealed Through Nonviolence
Good Friday invites us to remember the story of Jesus' last hours. Through scripture, reflection, and worship, we hear the "good news" of Jesus' sacrifice of love on the cross for each of us.
We will have a church service at 7pm to honor and worship with gratitude for Jesus' ultimate sacrifice.

The Good News Is...Alive in the World!
Even death cannot stop the Good News of Jesus!

The Good News Is...All Are Invited
To kick off the Lenten season, we will be holding a special Ash Wednesday service at 6pm. Also, prayer and "ashes-to-go" will be available in the church parking lot from 7:30-9:30am.
If the good news is for all people, that means that God's invitation is cast wider than we think, and we may be surprised to see who shows up! The invitation is for us - but there is abundant room at the table.

The Good News Is...So Good It Catches Us By Surprise
This week we begin Lent by defining "Good News", and considering how Jesus' ministry was and is still "good". The Good News always begins with joy. It can surprise us, and cannot be contained!

The Good News Is...Great Love for God and Neighbor
What does it mean to have "great love" for God? When we love God wholly, we must also love our neighbor.

The Good News Is...Together, the Impossible is Possible
The Good News empowers us to believe what can be possible through the power of community, and trusting that what we have is enough, with God.
